New gambling rules in effect in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (Legal Newsline) - New Jersey Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa announced on Tuesday that a new mobile gaming experience and the rules governing the games have gone into effect in Atlantic City casinos.

The Division of Gaming Enforcement's Mobile Gaming Regulations were adopted in the New Jersey Register on Oct. 1 and became effective on Monday. The regulations will temporarily remain in effect for 270 days. A proposal for final regulations will be published by the division within 60 days.

David Rebuck, the director of the division, said that the regulations are an example of the cooperation and imagination the division's partners have used to move past current technology. Staff members for the division reviewed regulations around the world and developed the mobile gaming rules. The division also ensured that safeguards were put in place to prevent underage gambling and make certain of the security and integrity of mobile gaming in the state.

Mobile gaming is defined as the playing of electronic version of authorized games on mobile devices such as iPhones, iPads and other wireless devices, in addition to devices the casino issues.

Mobile gaming will be permitted in any area located within the property boundaries of a casino hotel facility, including recreation or swimming pools and excluding parking areas and parking garages.

Software providers creating programs that affect wagers or gross revenue must obtain gaming-related casino service industry licenses from the state.
