Locksmith settles with AG Koster

Koster

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Legal Newsline) - Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster announced a settlement on Tuesday with a Kansas City locksmith and its general manager resolving allegations that the company advertised lower prices than it actually charged.

Alpha Locksmith LLC and Eyal Tom Lugassi, the company's general manager, allegedly quoted and advertised low prices for locksmith services but then charged consumers higher amounts after the services were provided.

Koster said that the assurance of voluntary compliance reached with the defendants would benefit not just consumers who were overcharged but the entire locksmith industry of the area.

"Not only does this settlement return money consumers were overcharged, but it also benefits the entire locksmith industry in Kansas City by ensuring fair play among local locksmiths," Koster said.

Under the terms of the settlement, Alpha Locksmith and Lugassi must pay $1,485 in restitution to 10 consumers and $800 in both civil penalties and to the Merchandising Practices Revolving Fund. The defendants agreed to charge only commercially reasonable prices in the industry or the amount originally quoted to consumers.
