CINCINNATI (Legal Newsline) - Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine filed a lawsuit on Friday against Kevin L. Hunter, a Cincinnati resident who allegedly failed to deliver goods he offered for sale on Craigslist.
Hunter allegedly primarily sold automobile rims and tires, causing more than $50,000 in losses to his victims over seven years. The civil lawsuit alleges that Hunter's actions violated the state's Consumer Sales Practices Act.
"It's bad enough when a consumer ends up paying for shoddy workmanship or products that don't perform as promised," DeWine said. "But paying for something and getting nothing is outrageous."
Hunter advertises multiple types of goods for sale on Craigslist, allegedly targeting consumers from out-of-state by saying he previously lived in the home state of the consumer before relocating to Ohio. He allegedly claims that his father is an employee of a delivery company so shipping will be free of charge.
The lawsuit alleges that Hunter engaged in multiple violations of Ohio's Consumer Sales Practices Act, including advertising and selling without possessing the goods to be sold, misrepresenting price advantages and failure to deliver. The lawsuit seeks civil penalties, injunctive relief and consumer restitution.
