JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Legal Newsline) - Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster announced a lawsuit on Thursday against a California-based company for allegedly distributing deceptive advertisements and soliciting service contracts without a license.

UST Development Inc. and David Bell, the company's owner, allegedly advertised the company's business phone services by sending solicitations that appeared to be bills due for payment to Missouri government agencies and businesses.

"I will not tolerate businesses that attempt to mislead or deceive Missourians in order to sell their products," Koster said.

The company and its owner also allegedly solicited service contracts without holding the required license with the Director of the Department of Insurance, as is required by law.

The lawsuit seeks to stop UST from doing business in the state of Missouri, restitution for consumers and civil penalties for alleged violations of the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act. Additionally, the lawsuit seeks attorney and case costs.

UST is a business telephone company based out of Ontario, Calif., that provides repair, installation, service, nationwide sales and maintenance. The company claims to offer data circuit extensions, fiber optic solutions, phone system cabling and other technical solutions.
