TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Legal Newsline) - Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi announced a $600,000 agreement Wednesday with a healthcare training school to resolve allegations that the school allegedly misrepresented itself in its marketing materials.
Under the terms of the agreement, MedVance Institute must offer to retrain eligible students at no cost and direct $600,000 toward scholarships in Florida. MedVance is a healthcare training school with four Florida campuses in West Palm Beach, Port St. Lucie, Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
Under the terms of the agreement, students who attended certain programs at MedVance between January 1, 2008 and March 31, 2012, who could not find employment despite diligent efforts will be qualified to receive retraining. Eligibility will vary by campus and will generally be available to those who were in programs with 70 percent or less job placement for graduates. The eligible students will be notified by the school within 60 days.
The school is also required to modify its arbitration process so that students can quickly resolve pending grievances, not make certain representations, and conspicuously and clearly disclose particular information relating to the school's licensing requirements, accreditation and financial aid.
"Students should be able to trust that the marketing information they received from any educational institution is complete and accurate," Bondi said. "I am pleased that MedVance has cooperated fully with my office and demonstrated a commitment to act responsibly."
Bondi's office looked into MedVance after receiving complaints of alleged misrepresentations in marketing to potential students connected to deadlines for enrollment, cost of the programs and the admission process.
