McDaniel
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Legal Newsline) - Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel said Wednesday he plans to make a run for governor.
According to The Associated Press, McDaniel has filed articles of incorporation with the state.
Doing so will allow him to start raising money before the 2014 primary.
In a statement to the AP, McDaniel said he would make a "formal announcement" of his candidacy in the future, but said he anticipates a "hard-fought campaign."
McDaniel, a Democrat, assumed the Attorney General's Office in January 2007, succeeding Mike Beebe, the state's current governor. McDaniel was relected in 2010.
Beebe, who was reelected governor in 2010, cannot run again because of the state's term limits.
"I have the experience and ability to lead our state, confront the issues facing our citizens, and meet the demands of a 21st century economy," McDaniel said in a statement to the AP.
"I believe Arkansas's best days are yet to come, and I look forward to sharing my vision in the months ahead."
