LINCOLN, Neb. (Legal Newsline) - Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning has an easy path to the U.S. Senate -- for now -- according to a recent Rasmussen Reports poll.
More than half of Nebraskans polled said they will vote for Bruning in this year's election over former Sen. Bob Kerrey. The two are vying for the Senate seat currently held by the retiring Ben Nelson.
Bruning tweeted the poll results Tuesday, as well as the results of one conducted for his campaign by the Tarrance Group.
That poll shows Bruning with a 52 percent to 19 percent lead over GOP primary opponent Don Stenberg.
The Rasmussen poll shows Bruning with a 55-33 lead over Kerrey. Four percent like another candidate and seven percent are undecided.
Rasmussen reports polled 500 likely voters on Monday, with a margin of error of +/- 4.5 percent.
Bruning, 42, was a member of the state legislature from 1996-2002. He became attorney general in 2003.
Kerrey, 68, was in the U.S. Senate from 1989-2001 and was governor from 1983-1987. Nelson succeeded him in the Senate, so it is his old seat that he is seeking.
