WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) - Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt announced on Monday that he has been selected by his peers to be the 2012 chairman of the Republican Attorneys General Association for an annual Washington, D.C., meeting.

In recent years, Republican attorneys general have challenged the current administration on health care, domestic energy production and affordability and have filed suit against health care mandates that allegedly erode religious liberties. RAGA is the only national organization with the mission of electing Republicans to the office of attorney general. The Republican State Leadership Committee is the parent organization to RAGA.

"We are at a pivotal time in our nation's history when the role of attorneys general has become the front line of protecting our nation's first principles," Pruitt said.

"The Republican Attorneys General Association is a large part of how my fellow attorneys general and I hone our collective position on issues facing our states. I am excited about what we will do as an organization in 2012 to advance conservative candidates, ideas and to protect the interests of our states."

According to Pruitt, Republican attorneys general have a commitment to advancing economic growth and adhering to the rule of law during multistate litigation. Pruitt said the attorneys general apply a common-sense free market approach to equal opportunity, aggressive crime fighting, judicial restraint, free enterprise, personal responsibility, legal reform, governing and the preservation of conservative values.

"For the first time in our country's history there are 24 Republican attorneys general holding office," said Chris Jankowski, the president of the RSLC. "This is a testament to the strength of RAGA's efforts to elect conservative AGs and literally marshal the authority of state AGs to check Washington's overreaching posture. RAGA has momentum in the 2012 election cycle and with attorney general Pruitt's leadership we will pick up more seats across the country."

RAGA recruits candidates, provides them financial support and research and assists them in message development.
