QUINCY, Ind. (Legal Newsline) - Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller's office will look into complaints against GCQ Advertising after the company allegedly sent invoices to businesses with which it had no relationship.
GCQ Advertising allegedly sent invoices to businesses in Indianapolis, Seymour, Beech Grove and Kansas City, Kan., referring to participation as an advertiser for local high school sports team calendars. The businesses had no business relationship with GCQ, the Quincy Herald-Whig reports.
According to the Seymour Tribune, Seymour High School did not have a business relationship with GCQ. WTHR-TV, an Indianapolis NBC affiliate, reported that several Beach Grove customers and businesses received invoices without having done business with the company.
"Generally speaking, with all consumer complaints, we send a letter to the respondent seeking a response to the accusations," Erin Reece, the public information officer for the Indiana attorney general's office, said, according to the Quincy Herald-Whig.
The company's website says that it sells advertising for program books, pocket schedules and calendars. Jason Brown, a spokesperson for the company, responded to inquiries that were made through the company's website.
"I'm cooperating with the attorney general," Brown said, according to the Quincy Herald-Whig. "The business is not a scam. It's just an error."
Brown said that those who had sent a payment to GCQ have received a refund.
"We apologize for the inconvenience as our team accidentally sent actual invoices to a few locations rather than simple information when printing these from our programs and submitting these through for mailing," a statement on the website's homepage said, according to the Quincy Herald-Whig.
A spokesman for Zoeller's office said it had not received any complaints about GCQ Advertising since 2002. GCQ Advertising is not registered as a business with the Adams County recorder's or clerk's office and the state attorney's office in Quincy has not conducted any cases related to the company.
