SALEM, Ore. (Legal Newsline) - Oregon Attorney General John Kroger announced Wednesday he is seeking a second term.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Kroger said he is running on his record as attorney general, which he said "speaks volumes" about how hard his office has worked the past four years.
A Democrat, Kroger said if elected he would focus on a lot of the same issues he did during his first term, including consumer and environmental protection and mortgage fraud.
The former Marine and federal prosecutor created Oregon's first Environmental Crimes Enforcement Unit and the state Department of Justice's Mortgage Fraud Task Force and Rural Drug Crimes Strike Force.
He was elected attorney general in 2008 after winning the nominations of both Democratic and Republican parties. The GOP did not have a candidate of its own that year.
Oregon Republican Party spokesman Greg Leo told the AP that the party would have a nominee this time around.
Thursday is the first day candidates can file to run for office in the 2012 general election.
