RICHMOND, Va. (Legal Newsline) - Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has told the Washington Post that he might run for U.S. Senate in 2014.
The Republican has made national headlines with his disapproval of President Barack Obama's policies and has filed a legal challenge to Obama's health care reform. In an interview with the Post, Cuccinelli was also critical of Sen. Mark Warner.
"I understand from people he and I both talk to that he's pretty frustrated with (the Senate),'' Cuccinelli said. "[But] I don't see him doing anything to change that system. He hasn't even tried."
A recent poll of 400 Virginia Republicans conducted by Public Policy Polling showed that Cuccinelli would earn his party's nomination in the 2013 governor's race if he faced Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling.
Cuccinelli leads Bolling 45 percent to 21 percent.
The attorney general last year filed a lawsuit against President Barack Obama's federal health care reform. He argues that requiring individuals to purchase health insurance or face a monetary penalty -- as required by the new law -- violates Virginia's Healthcare Freedom Act.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit is currently deciding the case.
