Biden
DOVER, Del. (Legal Newsline) - Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden has recused himself from an investigation of illegal campaign practices by liquor executive Christopher J. Tigani.
According to the News Journal, Biden withdrew himself from the case Friday because he had received some contributions from Tigani.
The attorney general told the newspaper he will appoint an independent counsel to handle the investigation.
A spokesman with the state Department of Justice said the counsel would come from outside the department and that Biden will announce his choice soon.
On Thursday, Tigani, who ran N.K.S. Distributors Inc. in New Castle, pleaded guilty to two felony violations of campaign finance law and two counts of tax fraud, the Delaware newspaper reported.
Prosecutors with the U.S. attorney's office allege Tigani looked to "increase his political influence."
According to the News Journal, the attorney general's father, Vice President Joe Biden, also has been linked to Tigani.
