DES MOINES, Iowa (Legal Newsline) -- The Iowa Attorney General's Office filed a lawsuit this week against a contracting company for failing to comply with a prior voluntary legal agreement made with the office.
According to the Des Moines Register, the lawsuit against IQ Renovation and its president and owner Timothy Marlow and Megan Troyer, respectively, alleges that the company has received numerous complaints from irate customers who say they were made to pay hefty down payments and incurred major losses.
The lawsuit seeks to stop the company from soliciting any more business through advertisements, telemarketing and trade shows, the Register reported.
The present suit stems from a prior agreement made with the Attorney General's Office barring the company from accepting large down payments on projects before they were done.
In 2004, Marlow and Troyer were accused of failing to comply with the legal agreement.
Bill Brauch, head of the state's Consumer Protection Division, told the newspaper that IQ Renovation is one of the state's worst offenders when it comes to contracting work. He said his office has received more than 120 complaints in the last seven years about the company and other companies run by Marlow.
The Register said a court date to decide on a temporary injunction hadn't been set.
