Waterproofing company ordered to pay $132K

BOSTON (Legal Newsline) - Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley announced on Wednesday that a Peabody, Mass., waterproofing company has been ordered to pay $132,000 for inadequate employee compensation.

Tremont Caulking and Coating Inc., and its corporate officers Alan P. Rose, Jr., and Maureen Albright, allegedly failed to pay the prevailing wage, failed to submit true and accurate certified payroll records to an awarding authority on a weekly basis, and failed to make a timely payment of wages.

Coakley alleged that her office received complaints from multiple employees stating that Tremont was improperly paying its employees while engaging in waterproofing work on public work projects. The projects were at the Howe Manning School in Middleton, Mass., and the Joint Force Headquarters Project in Lexington, Mass.

Coakley alleged that Tremont failed to pay 10 employees a total of $62,935.09 for work performed on the Home Manning Project and $24,607.18 to four employees for work performed on the Joint Force Headquarters Project.

The citations also order Albright, Rose and Tremont to pay a $45,000 penalty to the commonwealth for the violations.
