Schneiderman sues wedding photographers

BUFFALO, N.Y. (Legal Newsline) - New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman filed a lawsuit on Wednesday against a wedding photo company that allegedly failed to deliver photos to customers who pre-paid in full.

Jillian M. Karalunas and Victoria A. Vega operate JMK Photography, which is located in Lackawana, N.Y. The company photographed weddings in Buffalo and throughout Erie County, requiring complete payment for services prior to weddings.

JMK sent a letter in November to consumers that said the company was downsizing but that consumers would still receive all of their pre-paid photos and products within 10 days. JMK has allegedly failed to make good on the promise.

"Newlyweds paid JMK Photography to document the most important day of their lives, but instead couples were left empty handed," Schneiderman said. "As we approach what is typically the height of the wedding season, couples who are making plans should be armed with information that will help them recognize and avoid potential consumer fraud."

At least 19 customers who spent an average of $2,000 have not received their products from JMK, Schneiderman alleges. He is seeking proofs and digital images as part of his lawsuit to allow consumers to get them developed somewhere else.

Additionally, the lawsuit seeks to require the company to post a $100,000 bond to protect consumers in the future.
