Obama
WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) - President Barack Obama announced last week that he has again nominated a former Oregon assistant attorney general to serve as U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon.
According to a list of nominations sent to the U.S. Senate dated March 2, S. Amanda Marshall was nominated for a second time. Obama had first sent Marshall's nomination to the Senate in November, but it failed to act on her appointment before the end of the last session.
Obama, in a previous statement, said of Marshall:
"Amanda Marshall has shown an unwavering commitment to justice throughout her career. I am confident she will continue to serve the people of Oregon with distinction."
Currently, Marshall serves as Attorney in Charge of the Child Advocacy Section of the Oregon Department of Justice, a position she has held since earlier this year.
Previously, she served as Assistant Attorney in Charge of the Child Advocacy Section beginning in 2008 and as an assistant attorney general beginning in 2001.
From 1996 to 2001, Marshall also worked as a deputy district attorney for the District Attorney's Office of Coos County, Oregon.
She graduated from the University of Oregon in 1992 and the Willamette University College of Law in 1995.
If confirmed, Marshall would replace interim U.S. Attorney Dwight C. Holton. U.S. Attorney Karin Immergut resigned in July 2009 and later became a state judge.
