Report: La. AG switching to GOP

Caldwell

BATON ROUGE, La. (Legal Newsline) - A report posted Tuesday afternoon on NOLA.com states that Louisiana Attorney General James "Buddy" Caldwell plans to switch his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican this week.

The report cites "multiple sources who spoke on condition of anonymity."

When reached for comment by The Louisiana Record, Attorney General spokeswoman Sharon Kleinpeter said, "I do not have any information for you. Any such announcement would come from his campaign."

The number listed on Caldwell's campaign Web site directs callers to the cell phone of fundraiser Cynthia Dupree.

"I have no details about that," Dupree stated when asked about Caldwell's potential switch.

Dupree did say that the rumors of Caldwell's switch -- which have persisted for a few weeks now without any definitive statement from the Attorney General - have not affected fundraising for his re-election this year.

"We've had a very good fundraising year," Dupree said. "No one has really commented on the rumors one way or the other."
