WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) - Former Connecticut Attorney General and now U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal is reportedly joining the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.
Blumenthal, who defeated Republican Linda McMahon in November to succeed former U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd, will join the committee, a spokesman for the senator told The Blog of Legal Times on Thursday.
According to the blog, Blumenthal takes his seat as Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., announced his departure.
Cardin said that he was leaving the committee to join another, but did not say which one.
The committee now has 10 Democrats to eight Republicans.
Blumenthal, the first-year senator, was Connecticut's top lawyer for 20 years. He also served as a U.S. Attorney.
