Siding and windows company settles with Washington

McKenna

SPOKANE, Wash. (Legal Newsline) - Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna's office reached an agreement with an exterior home remodeler on Wednesday over allegedly misleading sales tactics.

The Montana-based Judson Enterprises does business as the California-based K-Designers, selling vinyl siding, replacement windows, doors and other services in the state.

K-Designers, McKenna alleges, misled consumers into believing that they were receiving special discounts or had won nonexistent contests in order to sell them services. The company also allegedly failed to notify consumers of their right to cancel their contracts.

"Misleading sales tactics somehow became the accepted way to do business among many companies that sell vinyl siding and windows," Assistant Attorney General Jack Zurlini said.

"We believe K-Designers adopted those practices to convince customers to make immediate purchases."

Under terms of the settlement, K-Designers will change its marketing practices and pay $70,000 to the state for costs associated with the litigation. A $50,000 civil penalty was suspended as long as the company complies with all conditions of the settlement.
