COLUMBIA, S.C. (Legal Newsline) -- South Carolina Attorney General-Elect Alan Wilson announced on Tuesday that Thad Westbrook will serve as chairman of his transition team.
Additionally, three of the state's former attorneys general, Henry McMaster, Charlie Condon and Travis Medlock will serve as honorary chairmen, according to Wilson's transition website, WilsonTransition.com.
"Two weeks ago, South Carolinians gave me the honor and responsibility of a lifetime -- to serve as South Carolina's 51st Attorney General. I look forward to serving them and continuing in the footsteps of legal leadership that Generals McMaster, Condon and Medlock have provided our great state," Wilson said in a statement.
"I am thankful that my good friend Thad Westbrook has agreed to take time out of his busy schedule to lead the transition. Thad's wealth of experience and leadership will be an invaluable asset to our transition team in the days and weeks ahead."
He continued, "I am grateful that Attorneys General McMaster, Condon and Medlock have offered their counsel, time and institutional knowledge. I look forward to using each of their tenures as Attorney General as arch types for my service in office."
Westbrook is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law and the University of South Carolina Honors College. He is a member of the Board of Trustees for the University of South Carolina and is the Immediate Past Chairman of the Lexington Medical Center Board of Directors.
Wilson said his transition team will conduct a comprehensive review of the Office of the Attorney General, its budget, structure, personnel and policy priorities.
Westbrook, who will lead Wilson's transition, outlined the team and its timeline.
"We have begun assembling a strong team of legal, political, and business leaders to fully brief and prepare Alan to take office on Jan. 12. Next week, we will announce the full transition team. And over the next eight weeks, we will announce task forces on a series of issues, as well as the priorities and positions that will highlight Alan Wilson's administration as Attorney General," Westbrook said in a statement.
The three former attorneys general say they look forward to helping Wilson during this time.
"I look forward to Alan taking the baton on Jan. 12. Alan and I are working closely together to ensure a smooth transition. He is assembling a great team that combines continuity and stability with technology and his own ideas that will serve South Carolina and office well for years to come," McMaster said in a statement.
Condon said, "I have been impressed by Alan's grasp of issues, leadership, and maturity. I am looking forward to helping Alan with his transition. Alan is building a great team with a foundation of institutional knowledge combined with innovative ideas to put his own stamp on the office."
Medlock said in his own statement, "Twenty-four years ago, I had the honor of being sworn in as Attorney General. I look forward to working with Alan on his transition team along with Henry McMaster and Charlie Condon. He is putting together a fantastic team that brings a wealth of knowledge and experience along with a diversity of ideas and backgrounds."
