Whitman
VAN NUYS, Calif. (Legal Newsline) - California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman picked up another notable endorsement over the weekend, this time from fellow Republican Rudy Giuliani.
While campaigning at the Airtel Plaza Hotel in Van Nuys -- where, according to reports, about 400 people showed up -- the former eBay CEO got the thumbs-up from the former New York City mayor.
Giuliani, who was the mayor when the World Trade Center was attacked on Sept. 11, 2001, told the audience on Sunday, "This is the right person at the right time for the kind of challenges that California faces."
He added, "And your challengers are our challenges, meaning they are the same challenges as America. Sometimes I think California may be more complicated than America."
Giuliani, a 2008 Republican presidential candidate, told Whitman supporters that Democrat Jerry Brown, the state's current attorney general and Whitman's opponent in the Nov. 2 election, would be a step backward in a state with a double-digit unemployment and a financial crisis in state government.
"You want to go back to those eight years?" Giuliani asked, according to The Associated Press -- referring to Brown's previous tenure as governor from 1975 to 1983.
Whitman said in response at the event, according to the AP, "Rudy Giuliani is very popular in California, because he turned around New York City."
