Schumer picks Schneiderman in N.Y. AG race

Schneiderman

MANHATTAN (Legal Newsline) - U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer formally endorsed state Senator and fellow Democrat Eric Schneiderman for New York Attorney General on Sunday.

During a joint press conference held over the weekend, Schumer and Schneiderman vowed to work together to deliver results for all New Yorkers.

"New York needs an attorney general who puts the people's business above all others. And for his whole career -- as a public interest attorney, as a community leader and as an elected official -- Eric has always been a warrior for working and middle class families," Schumer said.

Schneiderman said he was "proud" to be endorsed by Schumer, the state's senior Senator.

"As I travel across the state, in every region of the state, voters are looking for the same thing -- someone who will roll up their sleeves, and help them get back on their feet and make government work for the taxpayers again.

"If there's someone who is a model public servant, who knows how to effectively represent everyone in this great state, it's Chuck Schumer, who literally wrote the book. I am honored to have his support and look forward to working with him to increase economic opportunity for all New Yorkers," Schneiderman said in a statement.

Schumer on Sunday noted Schneiderman's record of "standing up to powerful forces" on behalf of everyday New York residents.
