McCollum with slight lead in Fla. gov race

McCollum

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Legal Newsline) - After months of lagging behind in the polls, Florida gubernatorial candidate and state Attorney General Bill McCollum has a slight lead over GOP primary opponent Rick Scott, new poll results show.

Scott, a multimillionaire candidate, was leading McCollum by as much as 16 percent in several polls released late last month and earlier this month.

But, according to the latest poll by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, Scott now trails the state's attorney general, 34 percent to 30.

The spread between the two candidates falls just within the poll's 4 percent margin of error. Thirty-three percent of likely Republican voters remain undecided, according to the survey.

McCollum was previously six points behind Scott in the company's last poll, released Aug. 6.

Scott has slammed McCollum for being a career politician who flip-flops on conservative issues. He also has accused the attorney general of abusing his powers.

Meanwhile, McCollum has argued Scott can't be trusted since the health care company he led as CEO in the 1990s had to pay $1.7 billion in fines for Medicare fraud.
