HARRISBURG, Penn. (Legal Newsline) - Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett announced on Wednesday that his office has filed charges against two used car dealerships accused of deceptive practices.
The suits name Michael Frost, president of CARS & S.U.V. Outlet, CARS & S.U.V. Outlet #2 and Auto Credit Menders & Management, and Donald Roth and Richard Gille Jr., the operators of Fairless Motors and DR & PR, Inc.
Frost and his dealerships are charged with selling vehicles that they knew were unroadworthy or that had experienced serious mechanical problems without informing its customers about them.
Frost is also accused of making unlawful "spot deliveries," where vehicles are delivered to their new owners before all contract terms and financing conditions were finalized. This often resulted in the dealership failing to provide titles or any of the extras - such as a DVD player - that were originally offered, Corbett says.
The lawsuit against Roth and Gille and their dealership charges them with using deceptive or misleading terms in their ads. They are also accused of selling vehicles that they knew or should have known were unroadworthy and of engaging in unlawful spot deliveries.
Both suits seek restitution for all consumers who were harmed because of violations of the state's auto sales regulations and consumer protection laws. Additionally, Corbett is asking for fines and penalties of up to $1,000 for each violation.
