Wilson wins GOP spot in S.C. AG election

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Legal Newsline) - Alan Wilson won the Republican bid for South Carolina Attorney General Tuesday with a victory in a runoff election.

Wilson has previously worked as a prosecutor in Lexington County and as an assistant attorney general. He defeated attorney Leighton Lord, The Associated Press reported.

The spot became open when Attorney General Henry McMaster decided to run for governor. His campaign was unsuccessful, and state Rep. Nikki Haley earned the GOP's nod Tuesday for that race.

Wilson will face Columbia attorney Matthew Richardson in the general election.

Wilson is the son of U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, also of South Carolina.
