LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. (Legal Newsline) - New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's popularity has fallen a modest amount, but he still holds a large lead over both of his possible Republican challengers for governor.
That's according to the latest poll conduct by the Siena Research Institute at Siena College, which called 808 registered voters from June 7-9. Cuomo's favorability rating fell 8 percent, the poll showed.
"As Andrew Cuomo continues to dominate the political scene in New York - and his potential opponents - his still commanding lead has fallen to its lowest level ever, while his favorability rating has fallen below 60 percent for the first time in a year and a half," Siena pollster Steven Greenberg said.
"Cuomo's 59-26 percent favorability rating is still the strongest of any New York pol, however, there's been a negative 13-point swing from the 67-21 percent favorability rating voters gave him three weeks ago."
Rick Lazio trails Cuomo 60-24, a 6-point improvement for Lazio from Siena's last poll. Carl Paladino also improved 6 percent and trails 60-23.
Whichever candidate wins the GOP nod will surely get a boost from their opponent's supporters. Lazio leads Paladino 45-18.
