McMaster
COLUMBIA, S.C. (Legal Newsline) - Republican Attorney General Henry McMaster's quest to become South Carolina's governor ended Tuesday in the GOP primary.
Two of a field of four will face each other in a runoff election, but McMaster, who earned the support of U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, will not be one of them.
Instead, state Rep. Nikki Haley will face Congressman Graham Barrett in the runoff because Haley fell just short of the 50 percent needed to avoid one.
McMaster, meanwhile, will remain the state's attorney general. He recently became one of a group of AGs who challenged federal health care reform in Florida federal court.
McMaster is a former chairman of the state GOP.
