NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) - Dan Donovan, Staten Island's district attorney, became the GOP's choice for New York Attorney General Tuesday.
Donovan announced his campaign May 16 and had the backing of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Current Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is running for governor.
Donovan will face one of five Democrats vying for their party's nomination.
"I know all of you here, like me, have had enough of one-party rule. We've had enough of the corruption that's become commonplace in our capitol," Donovan said during his acceptance speech.
"We've had enough of the waste and abuse of power. We're angry. We're frustrated. We've had enough. Let me ask you. Is New York better off than it was four years ago?
"Is New York - from Erie County to St. Lawrence to Ulster to Queens - better off than it was two years ago? Are you better off? Have you had enough?"
Donovan began his public service career in 1989 as an assistant district attorney in Manhattan.
Each of the five Democrats will be put on a primary ballot. They are Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice, Assemblyman Richard L. Brodsky, attorney Sean Coffey, former state Insurance Superintendent Eric R. Dinallo and state Sen. Eric Schneiderman.
