N.Y. lawmaker running for AG

Schneiderman

NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) - State Sen. Eric Schneiderman will seek the Democratic nomination for this year's attorney general's race in New York.

Schneiderman made the announcement Saturday despite uncertainty that current Attorney General Andrew Cuomo will leave the post behind. Cuomo has kept the political community guessing about his future plans.

Schneiderman was elected to the state Senate in 1998.

"Obviously, I certainly hope and expect that Andrew Cuomo not only runs for governor but will be the next governor," Schneiderman told the New York Times.

The Times added that Schneiderman will be facing four other Democrats if Cuomo decides to run for governor. They are Assemblyman Richard L. Brodsky, attorney Sean Coffey, Nassau County district attorney Kathleen Rice and former insurance superintendent Eric R. Dinallo.

Polls have shown that Cuomo would likely be elected if he runs for governor.
