HARTFORD, Conn. (Legal Newsline) - Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has announced that almost 10,000 F&S Oil customers and creditors who are potentially eligible for approximately $1 million in restitution have been sent claim letters.
The money provides restitution to compensate consumers for oil and services that were paid for but not received as a result of F&S abruptly easing operations in 2008.
The letters, sent by claims administrator The Garden City Group of Seattle include information on applying for restitution and are expected to begin arriving this week.
"The administrator will distribute checks as soon as possible to F&S customers literally left in the cold by the company's sudden closure," Blumenthal said.
"Scarce assets were a huge hurdle in our tough fight for restitution, but this result assures some relief. My office will work closely with the claims administrator to assure that consumers receive compensation fairly, quickly and efficiently."
F&S Oil's abruptly closed in March 2008, leaving 12,000 customers without notice and thousands holding pre-buy contracts that would not be honored.
"My office's investigation into the collapse of F&S Oil is active and ongoing," Blumenthal said. "We continue pursuing additional assets for restitution to F&S customers."
In addition to the claim letters, a Web site - www.fsoilsettlement.com - has been launched with information on the restitution program.
