Missouri files lawsuit over violations of state's no-call list

Koster

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Legal Newsline) - Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster has filed a lawsuit to stop two Florida telemarketing companies from making phone calls to Missourians who have placed their names on the state's no-call list.

The lawsuit names Summer Bay Sales & Marketing of Clearmont, Fla., and Tele Secure International of Pompano Beach, Fla.

Koster's lawsuit alleges that the defendants made numerous repetitive and harassing calls to consumers, informing the consumers that they had won a free trip and soliciting travel packages.

"Missouri's no-call law is clear, and businesses need to know we will stop them if they ignore the law," Koster said. "The Attorney General's Office will continue to aggressively pursue and prosecute these telemarketers who ignore the law and continue to make prohibited calls."

Koster's suit aims to stop the defendants from contacting anyone on Missouri's no-call list who does not have an established business connection with the companies.

Koster is also seeking civil penalties for violations of the no-call law as well as investigation, prosecution and all court costs.
