BOSTON (Legal Newsline) - Delta Air Lines Inc. has agreed to a $35,000 settlement with the Massachusetts attorney general to resolve allegations that certain workers were not paid on a schedule permissible under Massachusetts Law.
Delta's payment practices have been under investigation by Attorney General Martha Coakley's Fair Labor Division since January on behalf of hourly non-flight crew workers - maintenance technicians, support mechanics and customer service agents - who reported that a semi-monthly payment schedule was used in paying them.
Employers are required, under Massachusetts law, to pay non-exempt employees on either a weekly or biweekly schedule.
Delta, once contacted by the office of the attorney general, complied fully with the investigation, Coakley's office said.
In addition to the $35,000 payment, Delta has agreed to pay hourly employees on a biweekly payroll system. The workers will also be paid interest on the delayed payments as a result of the semi-monthly payments.
