Bill McCollum (R)
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Legal Newsline) - Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum on Wednesday reached an agreement with a Palm Beach-based hurricane protection company over allegations the businesses violated state consumer laws.
After receiving numerous complaints beginning in May 2007, the state began investigating Florida Window Company, LLC and its owner, Scott Berman.
The investigation revealed that even though the company had contracted with numerous consumers to install windows, doors and hurricane protection systems, the projects were never completed in a timely manner, according to McCollum.
The company had also substituted cheaper materials for those originally agreed upon, as well as failing to require permits.
As part of the settlement, Florida Window and its owner will pay $118,000 in consumer restitution along with $10,000 to the state, according to McCollum.
The company has also agreed to permanently dissolve.
