LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Legal Newsline) - Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway on Thursday announced his office will be hosting the upcoming National Association of Medicaid Fraud Control Units (NAMFCU) annual conference in Louisville.
The conference will focus on identifying and fighting Medicaid fraud in the bluegrass state, according to Conway. The event will take place Sept. 14-17 and feature over 200 prosecutors and investigators from all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia.
The event's main speaker will be Tony West, Assistant United States Attorney General, who heads the civil division of the United States Attorney General's Office.
"We are honored to be the host state for this event. Combating fraud and protecting the elderly have been priorities of mine since I took office," Conway said.
"By hosting the NAMFCU conference, we hope to bring more awareness to issues of abuse, neglect, and exploitation that unfortunately still occur in the Commonwealth."
Other speakers will include members of Kentucky's Office of Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Control as well as an investigator from the Office of the Attorney General's Cybercrimes Unit.
Since Conway took office in Jan. 2008, the Office of Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Control has recovered or been awarded approximately $80 million dollars in federal and state recoveries for Kentucky's Medicaid Program.
From June-September, Conway has collected an additional $32 million in settlements from pharmaceutical companies.
The state's Office of Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Control is currently prosecuting or has referred for prosecution nearly 50 cases of elder abuse, neglect exploitation and fraud.
