Cordray files suit against paving company

AKRON, Ohio (Legal Newsline) - Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray filed a suit Thursday against a driveway paving company, alleging it defrauded customers.

The charges were brought against Akron Asphalt and its owner Timothy Sands. The suit claims the company failed to deliver promised services, performed shoddy work and failed to register with the Ohio Secretary of State, all violations of Ohio consumer law.

"We received several complaints from consumers who said this company took their money without delivering promised results," Cordray said.

"After investigating the company's business practices, we discovered that it routinely failed to deliver and did unprofessional work."

The Democratic attorney general added that his office currently has four unresolved consumer complaints against the company.

Cordray is asking the court to prohibit the company from continuing to commit these violations, to impose a civil penalty of $25,000 per violation and to order the company to reimburse all affected consumers.
