PHOENIX, Ariz- Over 29 state employees have been laid off as a result of budget cuts authorized by the state legislature, according to Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard.
The latest round of staff cuts come six months after the office eliminated 20 jobs in response to the 2009 fiscal year budge adjustment.
Since January, the state attorney general's office has laid off a total of 82 employees.
The new layoffs are expected to save the AG and the Department of Economic Security $2 million which will allow for more funding for other areas needed, according to Goddard.
"These reductions are painful for our hard-working lawyers and staff, and unfortunately, diminish our ability to protect Arizona families and defend our State in the courtroom," Goddard said.
The current layoffs go into effect at the end of the month.
