Courtney Henry
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Legal Newsline)-Arkansas Court of Appeals Judge Courtney Henry says she will run next year for a seat on the state Supreme Court.
Henry, who lives in Fayetteville, will run in May 2010 for the high court seat vacated by Justice Tom Glaze, who retired last year. She announced her intentions Friday.
Later this week, Circuit Court Judge John Fogelman of Marion is expected to announce he too will run for the seat on the seven-member Arkansas Supreme Court.
Gov. Mike Beebe in September appointed Justice Elena Wills to complete the remainder of Glaze's term. Because Wills was appointed to the seat, she cannot run for the post.
Henry, 36, was elected to the Court of Appeals in May 2008.
"As a judge, I believe there is no room for partisanship in Arkansas' judiciary," Henry said in a statement. "I have demonstrated my commitment to judicial restraint and the rule of law as the standard for judges. I have never and will never legislate from the bench."
