Former Oklahoma AG nominated for regents board

OKLAHOMA CITY (Legal Newsline)-Former Oklahoma Attorney General Michael Turpen has been appointed by Gov. Brad Henry to the State Regents for Higher Education board.

The Democrat must undergo confirmation by the state Senate.

If confirmed, Turpen will replace Regent Cheryl Hunter, whose term is expiring. Turpen served as Oklahoma's chief legal officer from 1983 to 1987.

Turpen, who unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for Oklahoma governor in 1986, is a director in the Tulsa-based law firm of Riggs, Abney, Neal Turpen, Orbison & Lewis.
