NEW ORLEANS (Legal Newsline) - Marcus Clark, a Republican state judge, will run for Louisiana Supreme Court Justice, he formally announced Monday.
Up for grabs is the seat vacated by retiring Justice Chet Traylor, who is stepping down May 31. A special election for a 10-year term will be held in October.
Clark is currently a judge for the 4th Judicial District Court.
"As an attorney and prosecutor, the courtroom was my place of work," Clark said, according to the Ouachita Citizen.
"It is where I studied and learned the practice of law for the first part of my adult life. Thirteen years ago the voters elected me to the district court bench and gave me the privilege and honor of serving them. I've handled thousands of cases on that bench. That is where I found my purpose.
"As a Supreme Court justice I will bring my legal, judicial and law enforcement experience to the state level."
Clark, 53, is a graduate of Louisiana State University Paul M. Herbert Law Center. His only competition so far is Jimmy Faircloth, chief counsel to Gov. Bobby Jindal.
