FISHERS, Ind. (Legal Newsline)-The Fishers Town Council is set to decide tonight whether they want to pay a former Indiana attorney general $14,000 to lead discussions on whether the town should become a city.
Former Attorney General Steve Carter was tapped by local officials to facilitate the City/Town Study Committee. Carter, in a proposal to the town, suggested he be paid $14,000 to help the community decide their future.
He was hired as moderator of the panel Wednesday, after beating out four other candidates for the job.
Carter left office in January, opting not to seek reelection. He was succeeded by fellow Republican and former aide Greg Zoeller.
The Fishers Town Council appointed a 44-member committee to study pros and cons of cityhood after a group of residents began a political action committee to change Fishers into a city.
In his proposal to the Town Council, Carter pledged to run the Study Committee with fairness and transparency.
"The more open the process, the more credible it will be," he wrote. "With that in mind, meetings would be conducted in a town-hall format that would be open to the public, in addition to the Task Force members."
