Ex-wife and family bolster opponent in Mo. AG race

Mike Gibbons (R)

Chris Koster (D)

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (Legal Newsline)-Missouri's Republican attorney general candidate, state Sen. Mike Gibbons, continues to rake in big contributions from the family of his Democratic opponent's ex-wife.

The most recent contribution came from William Nassikas of Scottsdale, Ariz., who is married to Democratic candidate Chris Koster's former wife, Rebecca.

Nassikas, president of an Arizona company that operates a hotel and spa, gave Gibbons' campaign $10,000 last week, campaign finance disclosures show.

The contribution from Nassikas comes after the combined $230,000 Rebecca Nassikas and her father, Frank Bowman, gave to the Gibbons campaign on Oct. 3.

During the Democratic primary, Rebecca Nassikas donated $200,000 to a group that produced an ad critical of her ex-husband's candidacy.

Koster, a state senator, served as Cass County prosecutor from 1994 through 2004. He was divorced from Nassikas in 2003.

"I believe my experience with Chris Koster, as an individual and as a public servant, gives me a unique perspective. His record as an individual and as a public servant have shown him to be an opportunist," Rebecca Nassikas said in a statement after she made her contribution to Gibbons. "It took me a long time to fully understand his true character, but there were clues all along."

The candidates are vying to replace outgoing Attorney General Jay Nixon, a Democrat, who is running for Missouri governor.
