HARRISBURG, Pa. (Legal Newsline)-Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett has raised more than twice the amount his Democratic challenger was able to raise over the past four months.
Corbett, a Republican, raised $1.01 million between May 12 and Sept. 15, while his Democratic challenger John Morganelli raised $407,706, according to campaign finance reports.
The attorney general, who is running for a second four-year term, ended the reporting quarter with close to $1.8 million cash-on-hand, after spending $361,778.
Morganelli, the Northampton County district attorney, had an ending balance of about $1 million. He spent just $25,330 during the four-month period, according to papers filed with the Pennsylvania Department of State.
Pennsylvania attorney general has been an elected office since 1980. No Democrat has ever been elected to the post.
Corbett goes into the last six weeks before the Nov. 4 election in the spotlight over his probe into a legislative bonus scandal.
The AG's 19-month investigation has led to 12 people connected with the House Democratic Caucus being arrested for allegedly conspiring to use public money to help underwrite political campaigns to get Democrats elected to the House.
