INDIANAPOLIS (Legal Newsline) - Though they allegedly didn't get the brand of oil they paid for, customers of an Indiana oil change company will soon be getting a refund.
Hukill Oil Company, doing business as Mr. Lubie, will give $20 back to those who requested oil changes using Valvoline oil as a result of a settlement announced Wednesday with Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter.
The Valvoline service cost $34.99, but Carter says customers between Nov. 1, 2006-Nov. 1, 2007 received a regular $15.99 oil change.
"These customers, quite simply, did not get what they paid for," Carter said. "Twenty bucks a pop is not small change.
"This agreement could potentially return money to thousands of Hoosiers who used this service."
Mr. Lubie has 16 stores in Indiana. It will also pay $3,750 in investigative costs to Carter's office.
Also, the company must clearly identify all types of motor oil used for all bulk oil changes at all of its locations in the future.
