Zoeller
INDIANAPOLIS - One of Indiana Attorney General Steve Carter's top aides has decided to make a run at his job.
Republican Greg Zoeller, who has served as Chief Deputy Attorney General for Carter, has no intention of finding another workplace after Carter leaves office.
"I think my experience in the office is probably unique," Zoeller said, according to a report in The News and Tribune of Jeffersonville. "The state's law office requires a steady hand and a lot of experience."
Zoeller worked as an aide to Dan Quayle, vice president during George Bush's administration. In 1996, Carter was nominated by the party to run for attorney general over Zoeller but lost. Carter rebounded with wins in 2000 and 2004.
Carter decided that he would like to find a job with a not-for-profit group after his term runs out this year. The parties will make their nominations in June.
In the report, Zoeller said he would continue Carter's legacy of providing privacy to private citizens.
Carter is known primarily for his cultivation of the Do-Not-Call list that penalized telemarketers. He also utilized the state's Do Not Fax law in October when he filed suits against more than a dozen companies.
Prominent Indianapolis attorney Linda Pence, a former lawyer for the U.S. Department of Justice, appears to be the likely Democratic nominee.
