La. U.S. Senate race: Candidate promises to 'pop the door off the hinges' if elected

Maness

HOUMA, La. (Legal Newsline) - If elected, a Republican U.S. Senate candidate is promising to "pop the door off the hinges" of his Washington office.

On Tuesday Rob Maness, a retired Air Force colonel, released his "Contract With Louisiana."

The 12-point contract promises an array of actions Maness will take if elected, from following the Constitution as his guide to never asking his constituents to put their faith in him, as such an act should be reserved for "the Almighty" and not politicians.

However, perhaps the Senate hopeful's boldest promise is point No. 4.

"During my first hour in office I'll pop the door off the hinges. Too many crooked deals happen behind closed doors in Washington. I will maintain an open office - accessible to Louisianans over lobbyists," the point states.

Maness faces incumbent Sen. Mary Landrieu, a Democrat, and fellow Republican Rep. Bill Cassidy in the general election

The state of Louisiana implements a blanket primary system, where the general election and primary are one in the same.

If no candidate receives 50 percent of the vote on Nov. 4, a runoff will be held on Dec. 6.
