OKLAHOMA CITY (Legal Newsline) - With the Republican Oklahoma primary less than a week away, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, has released a television ad in support of the candidate he'd like to see win, T.W. Shannon.

Shannon, who was first endorsed by Cruz in back in April, will square off against U.S. Rep. James Lankford, along with several other Republican hopefuls, on June 24 for the right to succeed the retiring Sen. Tom Coburn.

Cruz's ad, paid for by the Senate Conservatives Fund, was released Thursday.

"In Oklahoma, there are a number of good Senate candidates, but T.W. Shannon is a conservative fighter," Cruz says in the ad. "He has the courage to look Washington insiders in the eye, and say, 'I don't work for you, I work for the people of Oklahoma.'"

Shannon is not the first open-seat Senate candidate to get a boost from the senator from Texas.

Cruz also endorsed Ben Sasse, who won the Republican nomination in Nebraska on May 13.
