BOISE, Idaho (Legal Newsline) - If the election were held today, U.S. Sen. Jim Risch, R-Idaho, would beat his Democratic rival by a near two-vote-to-one margin, a new poll indicates.
A Rasmussen Reports survey released Tuesday shows Risch with 54 percent of the vote to Democratic attorney Nels Mitchell's 29 percent. Six percent prefer some other candidate in the race, while 11 percent are undecided.
Both candidates crushed their opponents in the May 20 primary.
Risch defeated fellow Republican Jeremy Anderson by capturing 79.9 percent of the total vote.
Mitchell's primary opponent, William Bryk, landed 7,383 votes for 30 percent of the total vote.
Mitchell's platform includes improving education, creating jobs and protecting public lands.
Risch, if re-elected, is promising to fight for a balanced budget, fight against ObamaCare and fight for more jobs.
Rasmussen Reports conducted the survey of 750 Likely Voters in Idaho on Saturday and Sunday. The margin of sampling error is +/-4 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence.
