Va. state senator to deliver keynote address at PRA annual conference

Deeds

McLEAN, Va. (Legal Newsline) - The Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association has announced Virginia state Sen. Creigh Deeds will deliver the keynote address at the organization's upcoming annual conference.

The event, entitled Recovery Workforce Summit, will be held in Baltimore from June 22-25.

At the Summit, Deeds will speak to the psychiatric rehabilitation community about mental health reform, according to an April 8 press release.

Deeds began work on mental health after his son, who had a serious mental illness, died last year after being denied inpatient treatment. He is currently pushing the Virginia state legislature for mental health care reform.

"Sen. Deeds has converted family tragedy into a broader call for awareness and action, and in doing so has become a true national leader in combating stigma," said PRA Chair Lisa Razzano. "PRA is deeply honored to feature Sen. Deeds and help promote his calls for reforms that will fuel the growth of the recovery workforce."

The summit has a specific focus on best practices, evidence-based practice, integrated healthcare, wellness, and other critical areas that expand and improve the practice of psychiatric rehabilitation, the press release states.
