Ark. AG files petition against CMCS Services

Mcdaniel

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Legal Newsline) - Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel filed a petition on Tuesday seeking to compel a Fort Worth, Texas-based credit repair company to respond to his requests for information about the company's business practices.

McDaniel asked the Pulaski County Circuit Court to prohibit CMCS Services LLC from doing any business in Arkansas until it responds to a civil investigative demand issued by his Consumer Protection Division in December.

CMCS has signs posted throughout central Arkansas advertising a 100 percent guarantee to repair bad credit.

"Most so-called credit repair companies are great at accepting a consumer's money, but not much else," McDaniel said. "My office would like to be able to determine whether this company is like many of the rest, but thus far, the company has been unwilling to cooperate with our investigation. I am hopeful that a court order will assist us as we continue our work on behalf of Arkansas consumers."

On the company's website, CMCS pledges to remove negative information from credit scores. McDaniel said there is no easy or quick way to repair accurate negative credit history. He said the best way to restore good credit is through on-time payment of credit balances.

McDaniel said credit repair organizations typically cannot do more than consumers can do themselves to improve credit scores.
