COLUMBUS, Ohio (Legal Newsline) - Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced a lawsuit on Wednesday against a Pataskala-based sports league seller and its owner for allegedly failing to deliver league sports memberships it sold to its customers.
Old Skool Sports LLC and Christopher Sabatino sold memberships for youth and adult league sports, such as dodgeball, cheerleading, t-ball and flag football. Some consumers filed complaints alleging they signed up for a league that did not occur, contacted Old Skool Sports about the issue and failed to receive refunds. Other consumers alleged they never received refunds after canceling their membership.
"Consumers paid this business for products and services they never received," DeWine said. "In some cases, consumers signed up for a league, showed up for practice, and found that no one was there. These consumers deserve refunds, and in this lawsuit, we are seeking to recover the money owed to them."
DeWine's office is aware of 11 unresolved complaints against Old Skool Sports alleging losses of $1,440 in total. Additional consumers may have also been affected.
DeWine's lawsuit alleges Old Skool Sports and Sabatino violated Ohio's Consumer Sales Practices Act. The suit seeks consumer restitution, an injunction to stop future violations and civil penalties.
